How To Apply Fragrance

Here's how to get the most from your fragrance...

Fragrance is one of the best ways we can express our individuality and style every day, whether in the workplace, at home, or on our travels. While it might seem like a simple process, there is a preferred method of applying fragrance to ensure that you make the most of your favourite bottle. Here are the steps to guarantee your scent performs as it should:

1. Start with clean skin:

Before applying any fragrance, it is essential to start with clean skin. Fragrance can mix with anything on the skin including natural body oil or previously applied product such as lotions and creams. Clean skin will ensure your fragrance as it should in each phase.

2. Apply to pulse points:

Pulse points are areas on the body where blood vessels are closest to the skin, such as the wrists, behind the ears, the base of the throat, and the inner elbows. Applying fragrance to these areas will ensure that the scent is released throughout the day as your body heat activates it. Choose one or two spots, any more and you could overdo it, which we touch on in step 4.

3. Avoid rubbing:

Many people rub their wrists together when applying fragrance however this actually decreases the longevity of the scent as it lessens the amount of time the top notes will present. Instead, apply the fragrance and allow to air dry. Unless you’re using too much it should only take a few moments to dry.

4. Don't over-do it:

A little fragrance goes a long way. Applying too much fragrance can be overwhelming and can cause headaches for those around you. A couple of sprays or a couple of dabs is all you need to get you through the entire day. Bear in mind that your nose becomes accustomed to the scent so even though you might seem to disappear to you, rest assured the scent is still there and can be picked up by others.

5. Layer your fragrance:

If you are wearing a lower concentration fragrance such as an Eau de Cologne or an Eau de Fraiche, you may want to layer your fragrance. Layering your fragrance with a matching lotion or oil can help to prolong the scent. Some brands offer matching lotions to their fragrances however if you cannot find one you should look at the notes of others to find one similar to your fragrance.

6. Store fragrance properly:

Fragrance is an investment as a bottle is likely to last you quite some time depending on how frequently you use it. What you don’t want is half a bottle of your favourite scent to lose its potency. To ensure your fragrance lasts as long as possible, it should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. This will help to prevent the fragrance from breaking down and losing its scent.

In conclusion, applying fragrance isn’t rocket science and using these few steps will help you to get the best out of your fragrance regardless of how often or where you wear it.
